Initial Visit

All new patients are given an in depth evaluation of their venous disease. Our assessment will identify the nature and extent of your condition and allow a plan to be made. A questionnaire is provided to be filled out by the patient prior to or at the time of consultation. The past medical history is also reviewed. It also allows assessment of prior treatment such as surgical stripping and ligation, sclerotherapy or other interventions.

A physical examination will be performed with attention to arterial as well as venous disease.

A screening Doppler examination for venous reflux will be carried out.

Venous duplex scanning will be scheduled where appropriate to assess the deep and superficial venous systems and document the presence, extent and severity of venous reflux.

After these evaluations are completed a treatment program will be presented.

Insurance Issues

Occasionally, patients who complain of simple cosmetic spider veins have a more significant underlying medical problem, specifically venous reflux disease, which, if properly diagnosed and documented, may qualify for treatment as a medical necessity. If your condition is deemed medically necessary, appropriate contact with your insurance company will be made and the process of approval for coverage of your treatment will be initiated. Approval for coverage from your insurance company takes time, requires careful documentation and the submission of appropriate materials to insurance carriers. We have a full time insurance expert who will assist you in this regard. If your examination indicates that your problem is strictly cosmetic, you will be given an estimate of the number of treatments needed and the costs you should expect in order to achieve a satisfactory result. Your first appointment can then be arranged. It is our objective to improve all our patients in a manner that is fair, quick, efficient and affordable.
